Vidard Corner News: June

Finally able to come back here, after one month of blog inactivity. There's a long explanation about skipping last month's news so I'll leave the link at the end of this post. More importantly, I'm back on track with new beginning too.

This month's news are mostly artworks I've done since the last post.

Themed Art Series: Puppeteers

With new method of how I want my gacha art project to go from this theme onward, I implement a new ranking system (from lowest to highest: ★C, ★B, ★A, ★S, ★SS). Unlike typical gacha game or any lootbox system in any game, I attempted to minimize the randomness of rank selection (it's pretty easy after I decide on it myself).

To put it simply:

  • ★C - One-time free art for repeating supporter
  • ★B - Private art raffles
  • ★A - Private art raffles with soft pity
  • ★S - Theme commission; private art raffles with hard pity
  • ★SS - Custom theme commission

Also would like to say thank you very much on anyone participate this series! It was a great start for the next theme and new direction too!

Note: I'll explain more about my gacha project system on separate post later.

Themed Art Series: Wandering Devil

This time, I have a set rule on rank selection to my OCs and the participants. Even still, I think I need to take note on important improvement to make my direction better next time on next series.

These are current characters (my OCs and participants) that I've drawn, but the series is yet to finish. Stay tune on next post!

Latest Artworks (Commissions)

Custom ★SS rank ft. Mavvy

Custom ★SS rank ft. Kyrint

With start of the project, I've received these commissions for highest ranks and I'm enjoying it a lot! It's like the feeling of able to pull very rare cards in the game. With that, these are current ★SS cards that I have right now.

Latest Artworks (Personal Works)

Summer ★S rank ft. Guil

Arabia Day ★S rank ft. Kokurou

Earth Day ft. Hakurou

Labour Day ft. Soda

On previous post, I thought I wanted to start up seasonal series, which is my OCs in festival or season held globally or locally (be it Christmas, New Year, Easter Egg, etc.)

But due to time constraint and in need to focus more on my project, I want to put that aside. I don't know when I'll come back with this idea again.

Art Fight '26

This year I'll be in team Tragedy!

For this year's Art Fight, I'm going to focus on my two precious children (my main OCs Hakurou and Kokurou). Some of my OCs might be deleted due to irrelevancy on how I'll use them right now (probably they'll back once I'm ready).

Beside my two OCs, there's other OCs that I still choose to keep first in case I'm able to update their quick references before the Art Fight begin.

As for the attack, I'm going to focus on quick chibi style only. It's not for portfolio showcase so I can mess up my workflow as I want to. I don't know about revenge but I'll think about it later.

You can follow my ArtFight profile here!

Commission Slots Update

As for the time I'm writing this post, my slots are now in full capacity and I'm currently working on those commissions. I won't be rushing a lot this time since I want to improve my skill while finishing the commissions.

Current rate as for this month is USD65 / MYR200. With juggling the current slots right now, the rate gonna increase rapidly if I hit my commission threshold fast (both target slots and capacity).

Afterthoughts

Somehow I enjoy drawing back after leaving my part-time job, and I made a promise to not let go of the opportunity again. I thought I'm going to miss out what I've done on last month due to lack of update here.

Also, I have a clear direction on my project too, which makes me more pumped to finish them however I can. This is the first time once in a while that I want to make it real so bad. On personal side, my financial situation is going positive and I'm still recovering my mental health, after months of enduring the job that emotionally eating me alive (I don't hate the job itself but I have reason for leaving).

To end the post, I'm going to leave this link to the other post, regarding the reason why I didn't update anything last month. Hope you will give it another read if you don't mind me venting about it. Hat's off!

Stuff Happened.

So I quit my part-time job this month.

It's been two weeks since I handed the notice. After the last day of work, I asked a permission from my head manager to sit inside in the manager room for a while. Then, I had a dinner in the workplace which is at dining area before I left. The sudden heaviness inside me start to show up when I arrived home, thinking what's going to happen next. I was trying to distract myself with housekeeping while figuring out the next thing I must do: do not take the chance for granted again.

That time, I swore to myself do not let go of my artistic side again for the sake of stability. Though, I feel more relieved than have to spend night with intense anxiety, wondering what bad omen going to happen in my job on the next day.

With that, I once again revert back to full-time freelancing artist, from that day onward.

It's only that I was spending about half of my moment if I should stay longer to be more stable and more ready before I go with this path. What that comes unexpected was it was too early for me to make such decision, knowing well I might taking heavy risk because of it.

But you know, trading health for stability is a fatal mistake. I had several sick days that my time off got denied, which is my initial plan but failed. Hence, the resignation of my job.

Given some advice from my family members and close friends, I would be better to endure the mental torture just to live. I mean, I could've gone full-time and put aside my freelancing career aside, with less time of making arts for myself. But I know this wasn't me that I want to fight. I was slowly rotting inside, wishing for any kind of salvation as I don't want to make same mistakes again when I was first time jumping into freelancing career. Honestly, had if I'm aware of it earlier, I wouldn't have to step into this hellish years and spent time taming my anxiety instead.

And here I am, still trying to heal from the emotional scars caused by my carelessness. I still ruminating if I could kept my previous identity back then, but it was all too late when the fandom drama, loss of potential friendship and personal financial crisis hit me like a truck.

And while I'm back on track with this path again, the only concern was if I can making arts for living in long-term. At first, I chose to upskill myself while working the job but it got backfired that instant. I guess time won't wait any longer anyway. But, if I want to be truthful with the past experience: I'm afraid of finding another "real" job and do not want to step into it ever again. Especially if it means that I need to sacrifice my creative side for stable life.

By the time I was about to leave, I already resolve on what I want and must do from that day: to prove myself that I can walk on this new chapter, no matter how much it takes. I also learn more about curating my interest for what I can offer and want to showcase too. And of course I'm not regretting that: the moments I was stunned with success of some gacha art experimental projects that I did previously. That time I choose to polish my workflow a little bit more before I start on the very first series. I also need to remind myself not to caught up with the perfectionism of the project itself.

As for now, I'm regularly making arts for living and improving my skill. Of course I will take some break time when needed as I don't want to "grind too much" and end up not enjoying the process.

If you read until here, I want to say thank you so much for reading. And also excuse me for not able to convey as much as what I wanted but this is only I can tell. I know I had rough time last month and I'm unable to think straight (also the reason why I skipped May newsletter post too).

There's a lot to catch up for now, so you can check my June '26 post here.

Until then, I'm happy to keep going with what I have now.

Vidard Corner News: April 26 #2

Henlo!

This end of the month, some eventful stuffs happened in the state I'm living in and I thought I could give my own experiences here through this month's second newsletter post. The main highlights gonna be two events happened in the same venue, alongside with some recent arts I worked on.

This going to be the longest post I've made so let's get going!

FluffyLand x GoodSmile Cafe Collaboration

To be exact, the drink kiosk (Doko Koko Pick Up) is also part of the collaboration since it held on the same area. Basically they are selling limited-time themed drinks and FluffyLand merchandises during the event period, as you can see on the catalogue below. Also, fursuiters and furry-themed cosplayers are able to get 10% discount on all drinks.

There is also a Meet & Greet session with one of FluffyLand mascot, Caesar on two days (25 April and 2 May). I'm able to go on the first day and took some pictures during the meet session! Plenty of fursuiters were there too to take pictures together with Caesar and got discounted drinks too.

I met some familiar faces despite coming there alone, and they also got to experienced both event day and meet session too. Though the merchandises were not sold there yet since they started it on 1 May, apparently (which is one week after I write this post). I'm thinking of updating more on this event on next post after I visit there for second time, but with my friends that want to visit the kiosk as well.

If you're missing out on first day on Meet & Greet session, you can attend on second day (2 May)!

Cos-Mic 2026 (Spring Festival)

On the side of the same venue, there is also a free-entry anime con happening on two days. I got to visit the artist alley area before visiting Doko Koko Pick Up.

There's nothing much I experience here despite wanting to shop around merchs of my favourite IP. I was looking for Veemon or Guilmon merchs but able to bought some Leo/need merchandises instead by chance!

Leo/need World Link charms and stickers by Yeellow!

Leo/need STAGE OF SEKAI CD charm by Mogufish!

There's other stuffs going on like cosplayer booths and stage events but I'm not attending those areas.

Themed Art Series: Puppeteers

The full-body art series is puppeteers theme, with two type of puppets: dolls and shadows. I took four volunteers from Facebook and open up commission slots for the theme.

The series isn't completed yet as I want to get at most five slots for the commission side (which, well, less likely to happen when I'm on the end of finishing this). Meanwhile, i got a vision to create a photocard series mockup with all involved characters I drawn.

Despite that, I like how it turned out so far and I want to update more on in on the next post.

If you would like one, you can get it for USD40 / MYR120. Do send me a message through my e-mail or personal Telegram!

Latest Artworks

Battlecuts Art

Easter Egg 2026 (ft. Vee)

Paildramon fanart

The battlecuts art is actually a experiment through what I'm comfortable in my art process and I took inspiration from Pokemon and Undertale battlecuts art I found on Google.

I kinda want to catch up on seasonal/event themed arts and I settled down with Easters and Earth Day. Though I'm a bit late on both day, I want to to start on them anyway to test my current skills. I finished Easter art with Easter Miku as my direct reference for Vee outfit.

Also, on previous post I've shown my Paildramon WIP and I managed to finish it too. Maybe more Digimon fanarts someday but let's see what I'm going to draw next.

WIP

Earth Day WIP (ft. Hakurou)

Before I start on Earth Day theme art, I was viewing the costume on Project Sekai's World Link 3 costumes and something awaken me to experiment more on techwear-style clothing. Probably because of black-white main color of the outfit is why I suddenly want to pick on different direction, unlike the Easter art I did.

I finished the colouring but haven't finished the rendering yet, so I will update more on it on next post!

Commission Slots Update

Previously I mentioned that I want to set a price of USD40 / MYR120 for my standard slots. Honestly, I worked on more than said price on old art commissioners' artworks and maybe raising a little bit won't hurt my value (hence, raising my base price to USD55 / MYR160).

I know I'm not going to get as frequent as I used to with such high price, but I also want to show my worth with my current skill I have right now. I occasionally creating more personal artworks and planning future art series while I'm  having less or no commission work to do meanwhile.

With that, I'm ready to take some standard slots and discuss about your commission ideas in the messages through my personal Telegram or e-mail. I also updated the samples on my Trello queue!

Afterthoughts

I didn't think I'm able to write the newsletter post this long, with more eventful moments going on this month.

While I'm "window shopping" around the artist alley in Cos Mic, I've got some booth setup and merchandise ideas in case I'm participating any artist alley in the future. Well, talk about that, some friends and mutual has been asking me if I'm joining one this year.

I would like to if I given another chance to shine once more, but with my financial and personal situation, I don't think I'm joining any artist alley in any con this year. I vow to myself to be more prepared with proper setup and better merchandises after experiencing artist alley moments in past conventions.

Meanwhile, I'm working on my own art skills and taking commissions regularly while working part-time job to support myself. I supposed to quit my job last year but looks like I overestimated myself before planning to step out. It was mentally draining as I wish to focus more on creating more arts and sustain myself with it. I know it's difficult but there's still small possibility to do so.

So, there's no worry for me not joining the artist alley at this moment. I really appreciate your expectation and I will return opening my artist alley booth again someday. Hat's off!

If you have any of my OC fanarts, you can send me personally for me to feature it in future newsletter post!

Vidard Corner News: April 26 #1

It's time to give this blog some uses after months of hesitating what I should come up from my own thought. Also, I'm struggling a lot lately with how I want to grow as an artist myself, and also a "person". And here we are, my very first newsletter post on the blog.

I intend to keep posting in the blog like twice a month or so for now (but plan might change depend on my free time too).

Anyway, let's head up on some artworks I work on lately, which mostly personal works for now!

Latest Artworks

Hakurou (Shiro)
Kokurou (Kuro)
Before I draw these artworks, I did draw a lot of my own Digimon OCs with various themes and styles. I thought it would be great idea to settle one direction from others until I caught myself experimenting around which suit me the best.

I ended up with splash art of character with abstract background and swooshes, just like typical gacha game arts (notably Genshin Impact and Tower of Saviors, which are my main inspiration). Though I wanna to keep it simple first as I believe to improve as I keep going which sticking to what best for me.

Eid Ketupat (Rice Cake) YCHs

Some of samples I did for Ketupad YCHs
Some of samples I did for Ketupad YCHs

I started this YCHs a while before Eid holiday, just for raising some funds to sustain myself (well, meanwhile I have no commission to do at that time so it's also time to pick up simple idea like this at least).

Even though, some of followers thought they gonna be ketupat themselves! Maybe I'll keep it here for future idea one day.

If you would like a slot, do reach me in Telegram or e-mail me!

Commission Slots Update

With recent focus on doing splash arts, I intend to update my standard commission slots as well. I'm considering accepting commission slots that are not splash arts too (e.g. half-body, stickers, chibis, etc.), but you may need to message me first as I don't set the rate for those types.

I also want to start my pricing for this type back from the start and working my way up. Yes, I can still maintain my high price at first, but I'm personally dissatisfied with my previous art experimenting. After several times of changing direction and finally settle up to one, I think starting from reasonable rate might be a good start for now.

I currently offer USD$40 / MYR120 for one full-body splash art so message me if you would like to!

WIPs

Paildramon fanart WIP
Paildramon fanart WIP

I want draw more Veemon evolution variants despite all that. I started drawing Paildramon just for commission samples. Probably adding one human sample too later (whether a Vocaloid or Project Sekai characters). Even though, I'm more familiar drawing them compared to humans (this doesn't mean I can't draw humans at all. In fact, I started with drawing human first during my newbie years of drawing.)

Afterthoughts

(Veemon and Guilmon keychains are made by AviDaVinki!)

Since this is my first newsletter post, I'm pretty much want to get use with blogging. I would say venting negative stuffs on internet doesn't make the problems solve itself (which something that turned into habit and got myself into regret spiral, duh).

It's great to have your arts recognized through likes and shares, and the first time I experienced it was on Twitter. Some of my Digimon fanarts blew up there and even got reposted, which I don't really mind as long they credited me.

I did enjoy drawing more Digimon-related stuffs because of it. But sadly it didn't pay my bill with just exposure. So I decided to focus on my own OCs (including my Digimon OCs of course!) and less likely on fan arts in the future.

With that, hats off to my first post! It's a bit awkward at first if I'm going to read old blog post someday but that's fine with me. Hope to write better one on next one and also updating my blog layout.
