Vidard Corner News: June

Finally able to come back here, after one month of blog inactivity. There's a long explanation about skipping last month's news so I'll leave the link at the end of this post. More importantly, I'm back on track with new beginning too.

This month's news are mostly artworks I've done since the last post.

Themed Art Series: Puppeteers

With new method of how I want my gacha art project to go from this theme onward, I implement a new ranking system (from lowest to highest: ★C, ★B, ★A, ★S, ★SS). Unlike typical gacha game or any lootbox system in any game, I attempted to minimize the randomness of rank selection (it's pretty easy after I decide on it myself).

To put it simply:

  • ★C - One-time free art for repeating supporter
  • ★B - Private art raffles
  • ★A - Private art raffles with soft pity
  • ★S - Theme commission; private art raffles with hard pity
  • ★SS - Custom theme commission

Also would like to say thank you very much on anyone participate this series! It was a great start for the next theme and new direction too!

Note: I'll explain more about my gacha project system on separate post later.

Themed Art Series: Wandering Devil

This time, I have a set rule on rank selection to my OCs and the participants. Even still, I think I need to take note on important improvement to make my direction better next time on next series.

These are current characters (my OCs and participants) that I've drawn, but the series is yet to finish. Stay tune on next post!

Latest Artworks (Commissions)

Custom ★SS rank ft. Mavvy

Custom ★SS rank ft. Kyrint

With start of the project, I've received these commissions for highest ranks and I'm enjoying it a lot! It's like the feeling of able to pull very rare cards in the game. With that, these are current ★SS cards that I have right now.

Latest Artworks (Personal Works)

Summer ★S rank ft. Guil

Arabia Day ★S rank ft. Kokurou

Earth Day ft. Hakurou

Labour Day ft. Soda

On previous post, I thought I wanted to start up seasonal series, which is my OCs in festival or season held globally or locally (be it Christmas, New Year, Easter Egg, etc.)

But due to time constraint and in need to focus more on my project, I want to put that aside. I don't know when I'll come back with this idea again.

Art Fight '26

This year I'll be in team Tragedy!

For this year's Art Fight, I'm going to focus on my two precious children (my main OCs Hakurou and Kokurou). Some of my OCs might be deleted due to irrelevancy on how I'll use them right now (probably they'll back once I'm ready).

Beside my two OCs, there's other OCs that I still choose to keep first in case I'm able to update their quick references before the Art Fight begin.

As for the attack, I'm going to focus on quick chibi style only. It's not for portfolio showcase so I can mess up my workflow as I want to. I don't know about revenge but I'll think about it later.

You can follow my ArtFight profile here!

Commission Slots Update

As for the time I'm writing this post, my slots are now in full capacity and I'm currently working on those commissions. I won't be rushing a lot this time since I want to improve my skill while finishing the commissions.

Current rate as for this month is USD65 / MYR200. With juggling the current slots right now, the rate gonna increase rapidly if I hit my commission threshold fast (both target slots and capacity).

Afterthoughts

Somehow I enjoy drawing back after leaving my part-time job, and I made a promise to not let go of the opportunity again. I thought I'm going to miss out what I've done on last month due to lack of update here.

Also, I have a clear direction on my project too, which makes me more pumped to finish them however I can. This is the first time once in a while that I want to make it real so bad. On personal side, my financial situation is going positive and I'm still recovering my mental health, after months of enduring the job that emotionally eating me alive (I don't hate the job itself but I have reason for leaving).

To end the post, I'm going to leave this link to the other post, regarding the reason why I didn't update anything last month. Hope you will give it another read if you don't mind me venting about it. Hat's off!

Stuff Happened.

So I quit my part-time job this month.

It's been two weeks since I handed the notice. After the last day of work, I asked a permission from my head manager to sit inside in the manager room for a while. Then, I had a dinner in the workplace which is at dining area before I left. The sudden heaviness inside me start to show up when I arrived home, thinking what's going to happen next. I was trying to distract myself with housekeeping while figuring out the next thing I must do: do not take the chance for granted again.

That time, I swore to myself do not let go of my artistic side again for the sake of stability. Though, I feel more relieved than have to spend night with intense anxiety, wondering what bad omen going to happen in my job on the next day.

With that, I once again revert back to full-time freelancing artist, from that day onward.

It's only that I was spending about half of my moment if I should stay longer to be more stable and more ready before I go with this path. What that comes unexpected was it was too early for me to make such decision, knowing well I might taking heavy risk because of it.

But you know, trading health for stability is a fatal mistake. I had several sick days that my time off got denied, which is my initial plan but failed. Hence, the resignation of my job.

Given some advice from my family members and close friends, I would be better to endure the mental torture just to live. I mean, I could've gone full-time and put aside my freelancing career aside, with less time of making arts for myself. But I know this wasn't me that I want to fight. I was slowly rotting inside, wishing for any kind of salvation as I don't want to make same mistakes again when I was first time jumping into freelancing career. Honestly, had if I'm aware of it earlier, I wouldn't have to step into this hellish years and spent time taming my anxiety instead.

And here I am, still trying to heal from the emotional scars caused by my carelessness. I still ruminating if I could kept my previous identity back then, but it was all too late when the fandom drama, loss of potential friendship and personal financial crisis hit me like a truck.

And while I'm back on track with this path again, the only concern was if I can making arts for living in long-term. At first, I chose to upskill myself while working the job but it got backfired that instant. I guess time won't wait any longer anyway. But, if I want to be truthful with the past experience: I'm afraid of finding another "real" job and do not want to step into it ever again. Especially if it means that I need to sacrifice my creative side for stable life.

By the time I was about to leave, I already resolve on what I want and must do from that day: to prove myself that I can walk on this new chapter, no matter how much it takes. I also learn more about curating my interest for what I can offer and want to showcase too. And of course I'm not regretting that: the moments I was stunned with success of some gacha art experimental projects that I did previously. That time I choose to polish my workflow a little bit more before I start on the very first series. I also need to remind myself not to caught up with the perfectionism of the project itself.

As for now, I'm regularly making arts for living and improving my skill. Of course I will take some break time when needed as I don't want to "grind too much" and end up not enjoying the process.

If you read until here, I want to say thank you so much for reading. And also excuse me for not able to convey as much as what I wanted but this is only I can tell. I know I had rough time last month and I'm unable to think straight (also the reason why I skipped May newsletter post too).

There's a lot to catch up for now, so you can check my June '26 post here.

Until then, I'm happy to keep going with what I have now.
